Reception for Jeanna Ruter

After 25 years of dedicated service to the Avon community, Jeanna Ruter is retiring as director of the Avon Free Library.  Please join us on Sunday, January 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Library as we honor Jeanna for her service and wish her the best as she begins her retirement.

Holiday Open House

The Avon Free Library is holding its annual Holiday Open House on Monday, December 16 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  There will be refreshments and a visit from Santa at 6:30 p.m., as well as an opportunity to meet and join our new Friends of the Library organization.

Elderwriters: Celebrate Your Life!

Join author Sue Barocas to learn the basics of writing a Personal Legacy Document of your fond memories and personal wisdom to give to your family, friends and future generations.

We are offering this program twice on Tuesday, November 19th.  Please join us from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Advance registration is requested, so please call us at 226-8461 to sign up. 

Mike Carroll Visits the Library

Come see Mike Carroll, well-known local artist, demonstrate how he creates his beautiful pottery.  Mike will join us twice this week:

     Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m.

      Friday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Computer Health

On Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. our technology program sponsored by the Avon Rotary Club continues with a session designed to help you safeguard the health of your computer.  Topics discussed will include viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, scareware and other types of malicious software.  You will learn what you can do to protect your computers from these threats.

Story Hour on May 17

Please join us for Story Hour in the Children's Room on Friday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m.  We will welcome a special guest storyteller, Jan Peterson.

Journeys on US 20: The Longest Road in America

The Avon Free Library presents Michael Czarnecki in a program of photos, stories, and poems of his experiences across the country on Route 20.  Mr. Czarnecki is a poet, publisher and oral memoirist who has traveled the length of Route 20 on two occasions. 

"US 20 is the longest US highway.  It connects the two coasts, crosses the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and takes you to Yellowstone National Park!  Cities, small towns, rolling hills, eastern woodlands and farms, midwestern plains, wild western landscapes.  What more could one want in a single route, a route that today is garnering much interest in its historic significance."

This program will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of Central Presbyterian Church, 133 Genesee Street.

Youth Arts Festival

The annual Youth Arts Festival sponsored by the Avon Chamber of Commerce is taking place at the Library on Sunday, March 24 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  Don't miss this opportunity to view a display of the outstanding artistic talents of our youth in grades K-12 and BOCES.

March Board Meeting

The Library's Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room on the lower level.  The public is welcome.

Used Cookbook Sale

The Library will be holding a cookbook sale in early April.  If you have any cookbooks to donate to the sale, please bring them to the Library by April 6.  The sale will begin on April 8.

Technology Programs for 2013

The Avon Rotary Club is sponsoring a series of technology programs again this year.  In all, there will be seven programs from March to November.  Each program will be conducted by Ron Kirsop, Assistant Director and Adult Services Librarian, Wood Library in Canandaigua.
